DESCRIPTION: Provides centralised archives and records management services for all Tasmanian State and local government agencies, and facilities for government and public access to records of continuing value in all media formats. The Archives Office was established in 1949 and administers the Archives Act 1983. Archival holdings, which date from about 1820, include government documents and records, private historical manuscripts and papers, maps and plans, photographs, sound and video tapes, film, and newspapers.
