experienced by libraries in the aggregate, and to identify innovative solutions.... CLR
interests have evolved to include, along with advancing technologies, a wide range of
topics including the characteristics and use of information, the management of libraries
and information systems, bibliographic systems, and equitable access to information.
Professional education has been an area of special interest. Current program areas focus
on the development of leadership, economics of information, and the transition to the
electronic library. The Council promotes research, organizes conferences, issues
publications, and manages collaborative projects to bring about significant changes in its

"The School of Library and Information Science
(SLIS) at
Indiana University ranks consistently in the top five or 10 programs in North America, and
its master's and doctoral programs are among the largest of their kind in the nation. The
M.L.S. (Master of Library Science) degree has been accredited continuously since 1953. In
addition to the M.L.S., the school offers a Master of Information Science
(M.I.S.) degree,
a post-master's specialist in library and information science, a chemical information
specialization, a Ph.D. in library and information science, a specialization in music
librarianship or African studies librarianship, and dual master's degrees in journalism,
history, fine arts, history and philosophy of science, music, public affairs, law, and
comparative literature. SLIS has a full-time faculty of 22, supplemented by a
distinguished emeritus and adjunct faculty." |
